Bruno Fernandes has spoken out after Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in Ralf Rangnick’s first game in charge.

United had complete control of the game, but were forced to wait until the 77th minute to break the deadlock through a stunning Fred effort from distance.

Rangnick’s infamous gegenpress tactic was clearly in operation at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils attempting to box in their opponents on every given opportunity.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes explained just what the new manager requires of his team, while also hailing Fred’s role in the victory.

‘We had to carry on with what we did in the last game against Arsenal,’ he told Match of the Day.

‘We are happy because we got the three points. The result could have been even better.

‘Fred has these moments, one shot per year. Everyone is happy for him because he’s such a nice guy. He works a lot and people don’t talk about him. He deserves the praise.

‘I think it depends on the game, sometimes you have to press more, sometimes less. But everyone knows the manager wants more pressing from us.

‘The first 25 minutes was unbelievable, great tempo. We could have scored so many in the first half.

‘We have to follow our new manager’s instructions. Now we go again to the Champions League.’

United will look to continue their four-match unbeaten run since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking last month, when they welcome Swiss club Young Boys to Old Trafford in the Champions League on Wednesday.
