Britain’s cheapest house up for auction with bids starting at £0

Remember how excited we all were about that house listed on Zoopla for just £29,950?

Well, this property makes that one look pricey.

That’s because this house is going up for auction with bids starting at absolutely nothing.

The three-bedroom house sits in the former mining town of Aberdare, South Wales, just a short drive from Cardiff.

It’s been listed for auction through Paul Fosh, and could be the perfect opportunity for someone with a limited budget to get on the ladder.

There is a catch, of course, and that comes in the form of the home’s condition.

The house would definitely need a bit of renovation work, as it’s not in the greatest state.

Photos show bare flooring, dingy wallpaper, and an overgrown back garden, while the listing notes the property ‘requires updating throughout’.

The property’s lease also expires in 2054, so there’s not long left.

Ryan Saunders, who is handling the sale, said: ‘There has already been strong interest in the property which I expect to continue on through to the sale next month.

‘The reason for the low guide price is that the property is leasehold and has a relatively short time left on the lease.

‘The lease for the property is due to expire in 2054. The new owner may wish to seek to extend the lease or to negotiate to buy the freehold of the property.’

All that being said, the house definitely has potential

Spanning 861 sq ft, it’s spread over two floors and has a back garden (yes, the one that’s in need of some pruning).

On the ground floor, you enter to a hallway, which leads you through to two reception rooms.

Also on this level is a kitchen, as well as a bathroom.

Go back to the hallway and up the stairs – uncarpeted and a bit unappealing, at the moment – and you’ll find three bedrooms. Take your pick.

You could easily turn some of those bedrooms into a home office, a walk-in wardrobe, or an art studio. Might as well, if you end up buying the house for a fiver.

If you’re keen to buy, keep a close eye on the online auction page. The house will be listed on March 16 and we imagine there’ll be quite a bit of interest.
