Brighton are eyeing a move for former Chelsea man Jeremie Boga but will only look at making the transfer if they can ensure their Premier League survival. Boga has impressed this season and has a number of clubs monitoring him ahead of the summer window.
The Sassuolo forward has suddenly become a target for a host of clubs around Europe this season, after an impressive campaign in Serie A, which has seen the 23-year-old score seven goals and make four assists in 23 appearances.
Sassuolo are currently in talks with Chelsea, who have first option on their former academy player, who they sold to the Italian club in 2018.
The Stamford Bridge club have shown an interest in re-signing Boga, but are more likely in talks this week to convert their first option to a sell-on clause, ensuring they make some money for a player they sold for only £3.5million – but who is now rated at around £15m.
Brighton inquired about Boga during the January transfer window but Sassuolo did not want to sell and in fact want to tie the former Chelsea winger to a longer term contract.
But Express Sport understands that the Sussex club, provided they stay in the Premier League this season, could go back in for Boga in the summer.
However, Inter Milan, Napoli and Everton are also very keen on the Ivory Coast youngster, and now even Barcelona, struggling in attack with serious injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, are considering a move.
The French-born Ivory Coast star made just one senior appearance for the club, in 2017, and had loan spells at Birmingham, Granada and Rennes before being sold to Sassuolo.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have reached an agreement for Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech.
A statement on their website read: “Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Hakim Ziyech this summer.
“The move is subject to the player agreeing personal terms and he will remain at the Dutch club for the rest of this season.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action when they take on Manchester United on Monday (8pm).
Billy Gilmour could be involved after Frank Lampard promoted him to the first-team squad.
Midfielder Billy Gilmour, 18, has been officially promoted to Chelsea’s first-team and will now be a permanent part of Frank Lampard’s senior squad.
Gilmour, who joined Chelsea from Rangers in 2017 aged 16, has made five senior appearances this season.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” Gilmour said.
“It’s the first big step I think, moving into the first team dressing room at a club like Chelsea. It’s massive for me.”
