Brewgooder triples convenience retail presence with Co-op deal



Brewgooder will launch five new beers on Co-op shelves in 2022, with the help of a £250,000 growth loan from the retailer.

Sales of the craft brewer’s core and collaboration beers have doubled in Co-op stores during 2021.

The Glasgow-based company’s expanded range will now be stocked in up to 2,000 Co-op stores, doubling the varieties available.

Co-founder James Hughes said of the growth loan: “The past year has seen us deliver not just new, innovative beers and formats to Co-op shoppers, but accelerated the people positive impact of our beers, unlocking tens of thousands of litres of clean water.

“This loan will provide the working capital we need to step this up even more dramatically with the launch of several new beers in 2022.”

Matt Hood, commercial director at Co-op, commented: “Our customers have grown to love Brewgooder beers, so we are delighted to be able to provide this extra support to help increase the offering of great tasting beer in our stores.”

Brewgooder has been listed nationally with Co-op since 2018 with a 4.5% Lager, 3.9% Tropical Pale Ale and two collaboration beers with other craft brewers in the 100x Series.

New beers coming next year include a 4.1% Session New England IPA and a Hazy IPA, as well as exclusive collaboration beers.

Since it was launched by James and co-founder Alan Mahon in 2016, the purpose-driven brand has unlocked in excess of 100 million litres of clean water to projects based in dozens of countries, by supporting projects via partner charitable organisations.
