Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Youri Tielemans amid reports linking the midfielder with several top European club.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with the Belgian, 24, and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested.

Rodgers was speaking ahead of Leicester’s Premier League game against Arsenal at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Foxes boss said: “I think he’s progressing well, he’s doing very well. He came in January 2019 and he has progressed into one of Europe’s top midfielders.

“He’s only going to get better. An incredible professional. His mindset is to work at the highest level. He’s progressing and that’s what you want to see in your players.

“It will come with even more experience, even more games. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with.

“His job is to create goals and score goals but he’s proven himself to battle physically in the league. He’s really worked on that aspect of his game.

“If you look across the board in terms of ideal footballers, being mentally tough, being intelligent, having bravery, having quality, he ticks every one of those boxes.

“At 24 years of age, he’s a brilliant player. He is so efficient in games.”

According to Calciomercato, Bayern Munich are the latest club to take an interest in Tielemans after three superb years in the Premier League.

Leicester will be keen to persuade the 47-cap international to sign a contract extension as his existing deal runs out in less than two years.

Tielemans is just three games away from making his 100th Premier League appearance, barely missing a minute for Leicester since signing from Monaco.

The ex-Anderlecht ace has also proven himself on the biggest stage, scoring a stunning long-range winner against Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup final.

Tielemans has featured in all nine Premier League games so far this term and will hoping to inspire Leicester into the top four after a slow start.

The Foxes have picked up just 14 points to date and manager Rodgers has tasked his players with keeping their focus at all times.

He added: “I think it’s one where we’ve got to concentrate… We’re not quite at the heights but we’ve regained that spirit and commitment. We’ve seen the quality in spells.”

Arsenal, meanwhile, are hoping to carry on their good form – unbeaten since August – although their squad was hit by a sickness bug during the week.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta told reporters: “It was a bit of sickness, tummy aches and stuff like that. Hopefully everyone will be OK.

“[Ben White] hasn’t trained yet so we will have to wait and see how he is feeling and make the decision then.

“A few have been unable to train and we also picked up some knocks in the [League Cup] game against Leeds as well. Hopefully we will have better news.”
