BREAKING Tammy Abraham completes season-long loan move from Chelsea to Aston Villa

Aston Villa have signed England striker Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan from Chelsea .

Abraham, 20, drops down to the Championship in his quest for regular first-team football.

Maurizio Sarri had been open to keeping the young hitman at Stamford Bridge.

However, with both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud ahead of him in the pecking order, and having not made the bench for the Blues’ opening three Premier League matches this season, he has elected to move to Villa Park.

Abraham returns to the Championship having scored 23 times in 41 games for Bristol City during the 2016-17 season.

He found goals harder to come by on loan in the Premier League last term however, scoring just five in 31 for relegated Swansea.

His arrival in the West Midlands is a major boost for the Villans and manager Steve Bruce, with the club desperately seeking to secure a return to the top-flight this term.

“I’m excited for this new chapter,” said Abraham after completing his move.

“Aston Villa are a big club that belongs in the Premier League and I’m here to help them achieve that.

“At this stage of my career, I need games and this is a great place for me to come and showcase my talent. I can’t wait to get started.”

Bruce has been desperate to add to his attacking ranks, with Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan – the latter largely out of favour – his only recognised senior strikers.
