BREAKING: Everton footballer's bail extended after arrest on suspicion of child sex offences

The suspended Everton player’s bail has been extended by three months until mid-January 2022 after he was arrested in July, alleged of committing child sex offences

An Everton player’s bail has been extended until January 2022 after he was arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences this summer.

The footballer’s home was raided in July and he was subsequently released on bail pending further investigation, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed at the time.

GMP have now told Mirror Sport that his bail has been extended by three months until 16 January 2022.

The player – who has not been named for legal reasons – remains suspended by Everton, who said they would assist the police with their enquiries in a statement released on the club’s official website.

“Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation,” read the statement.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Everton had no further comment to make after the player’s bail was extended.

The footballer in question has not been charged with any offences amid GMP’s ongoing enquiries.

Shortly after the arrest, a source told the Mirror : “This has caused a massive shock.

“Any suggestion of allegations of offences involving a child are rightly taken seriously from the point they are made.”

The insider added: “Clearly this matter must be fully investigated. Allegations of this nature will cause a considerable amount of alarm among everyone within the club, the fans, and the wider public.

“This is now a case of waiting to see where the investigation takes us.”
