Bollywood star Deepika Padukone is being questioned by police in an investigation in relation to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The 34-year-old is being questioned today by India’s narcotics board as one of six people summoned.

Padukone was pictured arriving from Goa at the Evelyn Guest House in Colaba, Mumbai, where the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Special Investigation Team were holding questioning.

The actress arrived in Mumbai accompanied by husband Ranveer Singh.

According to local reports, officials’ questioning is based on WhatsApp chats involving Padukone and her managers.

The Chhapaak actress’s manager Karishma Prakash and Rajput’s former manager Shruti Modi were questioned in the case on Friday, with Prakash being summoned for further questioning today.

Prakash was reportedly asked about contents of a WhatsApp chat which suggested that marijuana was allegedly bought for consumption.

Actress Rakul Preet Singh was questioned by the NCB yesterday, while Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor are expected to be questioned today.

The actors are not accused in any drugs case.

Padukone is one of India’s highest paid actresses, and has won Filmfare Awards for leading roles in Piku, Om Shanti Om and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.

She also made the move to Hollywood, appearing in XXX: Return Of Xander Cage in 2017.

The NCB is pursuing two investigations in relation to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by apparent suicide in June aged 34.

Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother and Rajput’s former house manager have been arrested for allegedly organising and financing Rajput’s alleged consumption of cannabis.

All three deny any wrongdoing.

Officials are also investigating claims of widespread drug use in Bollywood.

Chakraborty, 28, was arrested earlier this month, and calls allegations that she bought marijuana for her boyfriend ‘totally concocted and fabricated for ulterior purposes’.

Following Rajput’s death, the actor’s family registered a police complaint against Chakraborty, accusing her of abetting his suicide and siphoning his money.

Rajput’s family allege Chakraborty abetted his suicide by providing him with drugs that exacerbated his mental health issues.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Padukone’s rep for comment.
