Billie Eilish ‘hated’ her body after she developed early and got her period aged 11.

The 18-year-old has made baggy clothes and her bright green roots her trademark, with her style now being copied by legions of fans.

But as a young girl, the Bury A Friend singer was driven to self-harm and thoughts of suicide due to her hatred of her ‘chubby and short’ body.

Speaking to Vogue, Billie said: ‘I just hated my body. I would have done anything to be in a different one. I really wanted to be a model, really bad, and I was chubby and short.

‘I developed really early. I had boobs at nine. I got my period at 11. So my body was going faster than my brain. It’s funny, because when you’re a little kid, you don’t think of your body at all. And all of a sudden, you look down and you’re, like, whoa. What can I do to make this go away?’

Eilish’s mental health suffered as a result of her body image issues and she engaged in self-harming behaviour.

However, when she was 17, Billie’s mental health began to improve.

She said: ‘When people ask me what I’d say to somebody looking for advice on mental health, the only thing I can say is patience.

‘I had patience with myself. I didn’t take that last step. I waited. Things fade.’

Billie – who won the big four Grammys from her debut nominations this month – has been shamed whatever she wears, with some trolls saying she’d be more attractive if she wore better fitting clothes, while others slut-shamed her when her figure was visible as her hoodie opened to reveal a vest.

Speaking to Elle, she said: ‘The point is not: Hey, let’s go slut-shame all these girls for not dressing like Billie Eilish. It makes me mad. I have to wear a big shirt for you not to feel uncomfortable about my boobs!’

Addressing the vest she was ridiculously shamed over, Billie added: ‘I look good in it. I was born with f***ing boobs, bro. I was born with DNA that was gonna give me big-ass boobs.

‘Someone with smaller boobs could wear a tank top, and I could put on that exact tank top and get slut-shamed because my boobs are big. That is stupid. It’s the same shirt.’

Billie is set to perform at the Oscars this weekend, with rumours suggesting she could debut her theme song for No Time To Die.
