Benzema told team-mates 'don't pass to Vinicius Jr he's playing against us'

Karim Benzema has been caught on camera apparently telling Ferland Mendy not to pass to Vinicius Jr because he is “playing against” Real Madrid.

Benzema was spotted on a tunnel cam during the half-time break of Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League.

The conversation between Benzema and Mendy is in French, but the 32-year-old is heard saying: “Don’t play with him. On my mother’s life, he is playing against us.”

The footage was released by French publication Telefoot following the match on Tuesday.

In the clip the Real Madrid players are seen leaving the away dressing room before returning to the field via the tunnel.

Vinicius Jr is stood within earshot of both Benzema and Mendy as they chat.

Spanish publication Marca claim that while Vinicius Jr isn’t directly referenced, it is he who the pair are discussing.

The report adds that in the second half Mendy only passed to Vinicius Jr three times, as Real Madrid came from two goals down to draw.

Marcus Thuram opened the scoring for Monchengladbach on the half-hour mark, and it was the Germans who went into the break ahead.

Thuram doubled his side’s lead in the second half and the Bundesliga outfit looked certain to take a valuable three points from the group game.
