Ben Affleck's father reveals actor hasn't told his family about Jennifer Lopez

Ben Affleck‘s father admits he had no idea that the actor is back on with ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez.

Timothy Affleck, 77, revealed this week that Ben, 48, hasn’t told him anything about his reconciliation with the 51-year-old singer and rejected claims that the Hollywood star has been pining for the Hustlers actress for years.

Ben and Jennifer rekindled their romance last month after multiple dates at the singer’s Bel Air mansion, before jetting off for romantic trips to Big Sky, Montana and Miami, Florida.

The couple, coined Bennifer when they first dated from 2002 to 2004, made their relationship official this week as they were photographed putting on an affectionate display while out to dinner in West Hollywood.

Timothy, however, scoffed at the idea that Ben has been pining for Lopez for years.

‘I’ve never heard of all that nonsense,’ he told The Sun in an interview at his home in upstate New York.

Timothy admitted the Gone Girl star hasn’t told him about his relationship with Lopez and said he didn’t know they were dating again.

‘Of course I’ve heard of her,’ he said. ‘But I’d no idea about any of this.’

Timothy added that he hasn’t seen Ben in many months and that’s probably why he doesn’t know the latest on the actor’s love life.

It was reported that Ben was the one to make the first move with Lopez earlier this year and reached out to her when she was still engaged to Alex Rodriguez, 45.

The Argo star reportedly wrote her an email in which he gushed about how beautiful the actress looked while she was filming Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic.

Lopez became single again in mid-April after she ended her engagement to the former professional baseball player, amid rumors he cheated on her.

After reconnecting with Lopez, it was widely reported the duo were ‘picking up where they left off’.

Timothy, a retired social worker and writer, shares Ben and his younger brother Casey, 45, with his ex-wife Chris.

For his part, he told The Sun he wishes fans would focus more on Ben’s charity work than his love life.

‘I just wish people would focus on the good work my son does in Congo – the women he helps there,’ he said, referring to a charity Ben launched in the war-ravaged country in 2010 after hearing about shocking crimes committed by militia there.

Timothy also touched on Ben’s years-long struggle with sobriety, which the actor has been very open about, blaming it in part on the pressures of Hollywood.

‘A huge corporate enterprise – which Hollywood is – by its nature is a tough place to make your way and for a global star, which was, it’s even harder.’

Ben has previously blamed his addiction issues for the end of his marriage to Jennifer Garner, which he called the ‘biggest regret’ of his life in an interview with NY Times last year.
