Bart the Bear II, who was a renowned animal actor of TV and big screen fame, has passed away peacefully at his home after his health declined over the past 12 months
Bart the Bear II, the animal actor who appeared in Game of Thrones and Dr Dolittle 2, has passed away aged 21.
Bart had a long list of acting credits across his career on TV and in the cinema and has reportedly passed away peacefully in Heber City, Utah, where he lived.
The New York Post has reported that Bart had been suffering declining health for the past 12 months.
As well as Game of Thrones, Bart also starred in Into the Wild and Evan Almighty.
Bart’s biggest moment in Game of Thrones came in the third season when the 1400-pound animal took on Brienne of Tarth after she was thrown into a pit.
Bart was also an ambassador to Vital Ground Foundation, which is a grizzly bear habitat conservation-focused group.
The group’s co-founders paid tribute to Bart on their website, writing: “Vital Ground is a land trust focused on conserving grizzly bear habitat, preserving genetic corridors for all wildlife and botanicals,” the obituary reads.
“Vital Ground also helps prevent conflicts between bears and people.”
Bart appeared in a number of TV commercials and also includes acting credits in An Unfinished Life, Into the West, Have Your Heard About the Morgans?, Without a Paddle, We Bought a Zoo, and more.
Bart was rescued alongside his sister, Honey Bump, after their mother was killed by a hunter in Alaska. They were taken to Utah, where they made their home alongside the Sues family.
