Barcelona have signed Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal but would relish the signing of PSG ace Rabiot before the European transfer window shuts on August 31.
The France international is refusing to sign a contract extension at the Parc des Princes, with his heart set on a Nou Camp move.
So far, Barcelona have adopted a cautious stance after angering PSG with their pursuit of Marco Verratti 12 months ago – which ultimately led to Neymar leaving.
Yet Mundo Deportivo have now delved into why the La Liga giants want to sign Rabiot so badly.
It is claimed Barcelona were impressed by Rabiot when the two teams met in the Champions League in 2017.
The France international, who missed out on a place in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, impressed as PSG thumped Barca 4-0 at the Parc des Princes.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona were taken aback by defensive diligence that night.
And he also managed to shackle Lionel Messi on a chastening night for the Argentina international.
Signing Rabiot, though, will not be easy.
PSG are reluctant to let him go without signing a replacement.
And Thomas Tuchel recently said: “I’m not certain he will stay.
“I want him to stay, but it’s up to him. He has great potential and can improve even further.
“He can become a top player but has to stay with us.”
Barcelona have had a fruitful summer so far.
As well as Arthur and Vidal, they have also secured deals for Malcom and Clement Lenglet.
Whether it is enough for them to win a first Champions League title since 2015, though, remains to be seen.
