Barcelona open to Ousmane Dembele transfer as Liverpool ponder late swoop

Barcelona are prepared to offload Ousmane Dembele before the transfer window shuts with Liverpool a potential destination.

The Frenchman has struggled with injuries since his mega money move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

And new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is ready to usher the forward towards the exit door.

The emergence of Ansu Fati and the return of Philippe Coutinho is set to further hinder Dembele’s opportunities.

Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool have been credited with interest in the 23-year-old, reports SPORT.

United look set to sign Edinson Cavani on a free transfer which may close one of those doors.

Ousmane Dembele could yet leave Barcelona

It would leave the Reds with a free run at Dembele and Barcelona are hopeful of securing between €50m – €60m (£45.3m – £54.3m) for the player.

The Catalans paid a club record £131m to sign the player following Neymar’s departure three years ago.

But in that period he has played just 75 times, scoring on 19 occasions.

Koeman had previously said that Dembele will be afforded playing time but that it was up to him to express a desire to leave if that was his wish.

He said: “I can’t say much about Dembele, his presence depends on the rival and how he is in training. His future? I haven’t yet seriously spoken to him about that.

“We look for intensity in training. We play like we train. We don’t go out on the pitch to rest.

Ronald Koeman has a host of attacking options at the Nou Camp

“If a player is unhappy, let him speak to me. Ousmane has not told me anything. If he stays, I count on him and he will have options to play.”

Barcelona had been touted with a move from Lyon’s Memphis Depay, a player Koeman worked with an international level.

The French club though have decided not to sell one of their prized assets making a deal unlikely.
