Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both set to confirm big-name signings this weekend, but Ray Parlour thinks Gareth Bale will be a ‘better signing’ than Thiago Alcantara.

Bale, 31, is set to re-join Spurs on a year-long loan deal from Real Madrid, with Thiago, 29, set to link up with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in a £25million deal from Bayern Munich.

Both arrive in the Premier League as multiple Champions League winners, with Bale winning Europe’s most prestigious competition four times and Thiago picking up a title with both Barcelona and Munich.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour rates them both as brilliant signings but feels Bale can have a greater impact on his former club, having left for a then world-record £85m in 2013 to move to La Liga.

‘I think Bale can bring more to the team for Tottenham,’ Parlour told TalkSport.

‘I think Liverpool are an excellent team anyway and that strength as a midfielder, they’ve got [Jordan] Henderson, [Georginho] Wijnaldum, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain – they’ve got so many good midfielders in there.

‘Thiago is an excellent signing but if you can get the best out of Bale and get him fit, I think Bale will be a better signing.’

While giving Bale the edge, Parlour still thinks Thiago will add a lot to the Liverpool midfield.

‘I think he’s an all round midfielder,’ Parlour added.

‘His passing ability – what I’ve seen in the semi-final and the final – was superb. He’s absolutely different class.

‘His range of passing… he’s an all round midfielder for me. He gets his tackles in, he can pass the ball.

‘He’s not going to be a goalscorer for them but he’ll be the one who links everything together.

‘So a great addition for Liverpool, a really good signing there for that sort of money.’
