Australia must adopt 'top tech tips' from Asia to deal with COVID-19

Technology expert Djuro Sen says Australia must look to Asia and adopt a technological response to dealing with COVID-19.

GPS trackers are being considered by the Victorian government to monitor returning travelers as part of a technology-based solution to COVID-19 tracing when the state begins receiving international flights again.

Mr Sen said Hong Kong’s low death rate was at least partially due to the high-tech response implemented to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

“When you go into Hong Kong you will be required as a visitor to wear a watch that is like a GPS tracker and you can’t take that off for two weeks, you’ll be facing heavy fines or jail if you do that,” he said.

Mr Sen admitted the Asian approach might seem “very heavy handed” but pointed out its effectiveness in limiting the spread of the virus.

He urged the Australian government to lean on technology and “take those top tech tips” from Asia to ensure the public would be able to live with the virus.
