EXCLUSIVE: Shane Warne wants to see Adil Rashid in England’s squad for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia
Warne believes that having a spinner is key to England’s chances of success down under and that Rashid is the best option they have.
The 33-year-old last played a Test match in January 2019 and has not featured in first-class cricket for Yorkshire since September 2017 in order to manage a chronic shoulder issue.
England have struggled to settle on a first-choice spinner in recent years, with the likes of Jack Leach, Dom Bess and Moeen Ali all featuring at various points this year.
However, nobody has nailed down a regular starting spot and Warne would like to see Rashid make the trip Down Under.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Sport on behalf of Advanced Hair, Warne said: “You need a spinner [in Australia] because once the quicks are done, it’s boiling hot and the wicket’s flat.
“You need a spinner to dry up an end and try and break a partnership so you can get your quicks back on.
“I’m looking around and if I was Joe Root, I’d be going to Adil Rashid and saying ‘Mate, can you please come for the series?’.
“I don’t think he wants to play Test cricket which is disappointing.”
He added: “Young Mason Crane I worked with in The Hundred [at London Spirit] and I thought, ‘Jeez, this guy can bowl.’ He’s a good bowler and he’s been to Australia before.
Should England select Adil Rashid for the Ashes? Let us know in the comments section.
“Matt Parkinson at Old Trafford is another wrist-spinner who I think… he’s got to work on a lot of other facets of his game but as far as leg-spin goes, he bowls pretty well.
“I’m sure the England selectors are looking at a lot of those players.”
