New South Wales health minister Brad Hazzard’s comments this morning backing his government’s position not to mandate mask-wearing across Sydney have come amid a chorus of infectious disease experts calling for such a mandate.

Professor Catherine Bennett, Deakin University epidemiology chair, has noted that a third of Sydney’s Covid outbreak is outside the northern beaches.

Epidemiologist Professor Mike Toole has added his voice to the chorus of experts calling for crowds to be banned from the Sydney cricket test.

He says thousands of fans flocking to the SCG is “just too high a risk,” describing Sydney’s current COVID-19 situation as “delicate.”
