HOLLYWOOD actress Eva Longoria believes the secret behind a successful marriage is keeping the passion alive, saying: “Sex is the most powerful way we connect.”
She loves sharing “salacious” chats about bedroom exploits with her closest pals, including long-time best friend Victoria Beckham.
And she told how she believes the best sex of her life is still ahead of her at 47.
The former Desperate Housewives star said: “You either have a salacious chat with your friends or a really clinical one — and I like to be somewhere inbetween.
“Some people need an emotional connection to be sexually active and some people don’t want an emotional connection to be sexually active. Each to their own.
“I know some people who are like, ‘It’s a chemical thing and I’ve just met them and three minutes in I wanted to tear their clothes off’.
“But the others are like, ‘I need to get to know you, I need to know your values.
“Are you a good person?’ Then the emotional connection leads to the physical.
“I have so many girlfriends who are single and I’m like, ‘It’s sex! Have sex with him’.
“Then other times, ‘You’re having too much sex, you should get to know them’.”
Eva added: “I often feel that any time we talk about sex it comes with a side of shame or a side of taboo, especially with me growing up in a Hispanic house.
“Oh my God, my mum didn’t even tell me where my period came from. It was like taboo, we don’t talk about it, and now we are in a world of so much information and over- information.
“You can get lost in this conversation of what your relationship to sex should look like, what it should be and what it should not be.
“But sex is one of the most powerful ways we connect as humans. Not only physically but energetically and spiritually.”
Eva was speaking with sex expert Emily Nagoski, who revealed during their conversation that the average age for “magnificent” sex is 55.
And on hearing the news, she said with a laugh: “That’s definitely not the age I was going to guess.
“I am so excited — that means my greatest sexual adventures are ahead of me and not behind me.”
Eva found fame in 2004 after landing her breakthrough role as Gabrielle Solis in US TV series Desperate Housewives which was a worldwide smash hit.
Since then she has been at the centre of Hollywood’s A-list circle, with showbiz pals including Reese Witherspoon, Melanie Griffiths and Serena Williams.
She met former Spice Girl Victoria when Posh and David moved to LA after he signed for LA Galaxy and the pair quickly became close.
A year later she jetted to London to support Victoria as she launched her fashion brand.
And the former singer was her shoulder to cry on when Eva’s second marriage to Tony Parker collapsed in 2011, four years after they married.
Speaking about their friendship to Grazia magazine in 2014, Eva described Victoria as “the most beautiful woman inside and out” saying that she was her “funniest” friend.
And in 2015 she told Daily Mail Australia: “We’re best friends and have shared lots of life lessons together.
“What we talk about is between us but we’ve been through stuff together.”
Eva, godmother to her best friend’s daughter Harper, went on to marry her third husband, businessman Jose Baston, in 2016 and Victoria was a guest at the wedding and designed the dress.
‘Floating and delirious’
In the candid chat, on her Connections With Eva Longoria podcast, the actress admitted she knows how easy it can be for a marriage to lose that spark over time.
She also went on to reveal she was also pushed to the edge of exhaustion after becoming a mum in June 2018.
Eva said of marriage: “Of course you are both hot and heavy at the beginning.
“But then sometimes it fizzles out and people feel like they have to get divorced because there’s no more fire, no more passion.
“I also feel Covid really affected some relationships. It’s lockdown and you are with your partner all the time. Like, ‘Don’t you have a business trip?
“Aren’t you leaving somewhere? No? Oh, all right, so you’re here’.”
Eva, who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, revealed she experienced such joy at first holding her son Santiago, now three, in her arms.
She said: “When I had my baby I never felt so tired in my life but never felt so happy.
“I was floating and delirious.”
Speaking just after the birth, she revealed in a magazine interview: “Well, it’s magical. You’re in hospital, you’re a little loopy, a little tired from labour.
“There are a lot of people in the room, doctors and nurses, and then it’s almost like all the noise goes away.
“It’s just he and I. He was born so alert. It was like he said, ‘Hey, I know you’. It’s as if I knew him my whole life.”
But Eva insisted that she and husband Jose still make time for each other, and added: “We have dinner every night and have a glass of wine all the time.
“Plus, we are so busy in our day that at night we have so much to talk about.
“We actually love unplugging and talking at the end of each night.”
