Illinois State University’s AsiaConnect will host Asian Heritage Week April 5-11. Under the theme #MyAsianCulturalExperience, the free events featuring a cook along with Dr. Tak Cheung, and sharing of projects, performances, and artifacts.
“Asian Heritage Week has been AsiaConnect’s annual signature event since 2017. We dedicate this one week to celebrate Asian cultural identity,” said AsiaConnect president Dr. Li Zeng. “We’d also like it to serve as a platform for cultural education, bringing the community together to embrace diversity.” Find the list of activities here.
FAST & PERFECT, a cooking demonstration and presentation with Dr. Tak Cheung will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, via Zoom. Those interested can access the event on Zoom here.
Cheung hosts the popular YouTube cooking show Wok with Tak. A retired Illinois State biological sciences professor, Cheung researches the immune system and the human body’s defense against diseases. He will give a presentation on his healthy cooking system with a demonstration of stir-fry cooking. He named his approach PERFECT (practical, efficient, rapid, economical, creative, and tasty).
Throughout the week, AsiaConnect is inviting people in the community to identify Asian Americans who have made great contributions to different fields in the U.S. and share on the AsiaConnect Facebook page.
A virtual Asian Cultural Heritage Celebration will also take place on Facebook, with participants invited to share Asian artifacts, such as crafts, performances, videos, films, and photos.
