Mikel Arteta admits conversations to sell certain Arsenal stars are underway amid claims Liverpool are keen on signing Shkodran Mustafi.
Liverpool have been hit hard with injuries this season and manager Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new centre-back as cover for the rest of the campaign.
Mustafi has just six months left to run on his Arsenal contract, and is out of favour in north London, having not played under Arteta since Boxing Day.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the centre-back, with the Reds reportedly willing to buy the defender out of his contract early.
And following Arsenal’s goalless draw with Manchester United, Arteta confirmed the Gunners are looking to move players on.
“There are some conversations going on at the moment,” said Arteta. “The club is willing to help some of them, whether we find a solution or not, I don’t know.”
Klopp recently bemoaned how difficult it is to sign a centre-back in the current market, with Liverpool being constantly priced out of deals for players.
“You know the situation with centre-halves out there,” said Klopp.
“You know the clubs where the centre-halves are playing, because everyone is talking about them. Tell me if one of these clubs needs the money and needs to sell a player?
“And if they need money then they want crazy money. I am not sure there is an £80million centre-back available at the moment and a club thinks ‘We can get £80m for him so we will sell him’. The teams would not sell this calibre of player now.”
