Arsenal's three best players in comfortable Premier League win over Newcastle

Arsenal saw off Newcastle 3-0 at the Emirates thanks to three second half goals as the Gunners moved into the top half of the table.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring at the start of the second half following a swift break, with Bukayo Saka driving in a second on the hour mark.

Gunners skipper Aubameyang also got his side’s third when he fired in after a pull back from the byline from Cedric, with VAR judging that the full-back had just kept the ball in play before his cross.

But who were Arsenal’s best performers on the night?

Here are their top three.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The forward really should have scored early on when he somehow contrived to hit the woodwork when it looked easier to score, but just when you thought that could have got to him he managed to keep going.

And going.

Coming in off the left flank where he’s so dangerous, he raced through to fire past an oddly positioned Karl Darlow to open the scoring at the start of the second period, easing any nerves the hosts felt.

There was to be a second too, as he tapped home after being found by a marauding Cedric, before he immediately exited stage right.

A good night for him.

Emile Smith Rowe

These are the sort of evenings that will be crucial to Smith Rowe’s development.

As Newcastle defended well in the first period it would have been easy for ‘The Croydon De Bruyne’ to grow weary and begin to get down on himself, but he didn’t.

He kept going and kept showing for the ball, with his quality fully on show when he teed up Saka’s goal to make it 2-0.

Every game will still be a learning experience for the teenager as he makes his way in the game, but he could depart 10 minutes from time knowing that he’d done a good job here.

Bukayo Saka

Another game, another goal for Saka, and another 90 minutes that show just why Arsenal fans know he’s so special.

The versatile youngster is probably the first name on Arteta’s teamsheet now, and he took his goal with the aplomb of a veteran when he was teed up by Smith Rowe.

There is more to come from him, which is scary when you think about it.
