Martin Odegaard was delighted to score his first Premier League goal for Arsenal, describing the moment as a ‘dream come true’ but also felt that the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur was a ‘strange’ game.

Odegaard scored his first goal for the Gunners on Thursday with a tremendous effort against Olympiakos in the Europa League and now he has opened his Premier League account.

His effort cancelled out Erik Lamela’s opener for Spurs, with Alexandre Lacazette netting the winner from the penalty spot.

The Norwegian, who is on loan from Real Madrid, was beaming after the match, but did admit that the contest was a ‘strange’ one.

Arsenal were the better team for the majority of the match, but Spurs seemed to take over dominance in the last 30 minutes after they went behind and in the last 15 minutes after Lamela was shown a second yellow card and dismissed.

‘It was a dream come true today and also it was a big win in the derby so I’m really happy for the team,’ Odegaard told the official Arsenal website. ‘This was for our fans and I hope they are happy with us today.

‘I think we dominated the game from the start. After the red card the game changed a little bit. It was a bit strange. Until that moment I think we dominated the game completely and fully deserved the win and should have scored more goals.

‘[Coming from a goal behind] shows the mentality of the team. Every time we get hit in the face we strike back. It shows the character and the spirit so I’m really happy.

‘We just have to keep going, each game, play each game as the last and keep fighting. In the end we’ll see but if we play at this level we can reach some good things.’

Arsenal remain tenth with the victory but edge closer towards finishing in a European place with 10 games to go.
