Arsenal have had a productive summer, but they’re not finished yet. Manager Mikel Arteta has suggested the club will be busy on deadline day, with a midfield signing seemingly the priority.
“I think it is a crucial moment because the end defines the people, the players, the balance and the quality that you are going to have, probably, for the rest of the season,” the Spaniard said.
The Gunners have already brought in Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian, Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares and Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson. But there could be more still to come, as well as some potential outgoings.
Here we take a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.
Arsenal targeting Chelsea midfielder before window closes
Arsenal want to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho before tomorrow’s deadline, according to Sky Sports.
The Italy international has been identified as a target after the Gunners failed in their attempt to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
Chelsea look unlikely to sell Jorginho given his importance in the first team. The former Napoli man scored twice from the penalty spot as the Blues beat Crystal Palace 4-0.
But a late bid from Arsenal might tempt Chelsea, who are believed to value the 28-year-old at around £50m.
Fulham want Arsenal defender on loan
Fulham are interested in signing William Saliba on loan before tomorrow’s deadline, report Le10 Sport.
The 19-year-old was expected to compete for a place in Mikel Arteta’s first team this season after returning from his loan at Saint-Etienne.
But Arsenal now appear willing to send him out on loan again, with reported interest from clubs in France and the Premier League.
Fulham are desperately searching for defensive reinforcements after their dismal start to the season.
Leeds have also been linked with the centre-back as deadline day edges closer.
Arsenal duo made Aouar signing impossible
Arsenal were held back in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar by Matteo Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil, claim the Daily Express.
The 22-year-old was believed to be open to joining the Gunners, but Lyon’s demands weren’t met before the Ligue 1 club’s deadline of Friday.
That was due to a lack of funds, not helped by Arsenal’s inability to offload Guendouzi and Ozil. Both players are on big money and neither appear to be in Arteta’s long-term plans.
It is claimed that the Gunners might have been able to bring in Aouar if Guendouzi and Ozil were sold, particularly after Lucas Torreira’s move to Atletico Madrid.
