Arsenal transfer round-up as Gunners prepare to listen to offers for Pepe

Arsenal’s hectic fixture schedule continues apace with a midweek round of Europa League group stage action between each Premier League clash.

With games coming thick and fast, it is inevitable that the club will consider freshening up their options in the January window should the opportunities arise, particularly in terms of their midfield and attack.

There are also peripheral figures at the club who were not moved on in the summer window, who still need to depart.

The possibility of their exits will once again arise this time round.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours as they begin to look ahead to the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta has warned that it will “take a few windows” for the squad to be rebuilt at the club.

The Spaniard has overseen two transfer windows at the helm of the club but believes it will take a few more yet before he can build the squad in his image.

“It takes a few windows at least to rebuild a squad,” Arteta told his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Wolves.

“And to establish yourself to compete at the level of certain clubs in this league, which is near 100 points, again it takes time.

“In football, time is very precious and people are very impatient. But if you don’t respect the processes and you ask certain people to do certain things when the foundations are not there, it’s a really dangerous thing to do as well.

“I know we all want to see — and I am the first one who wants to see — Arsenal at the top of the league and my only intention every time I prepare for a match is that. After, where we get, time will tell us.

“There are still a lot of things that are going to happen and we have to prepare for difficult moments. We know that the challenge and the responsibility is to turn it around as quickly as possible and get the club fighting where it belongs.”

Gunners ready to sell Pepe

Arsenal are prepared to sell club record signing Nicolas Pepe next year after a prolonged run of underwhelming form, according to the Daily Star .

The Ivorian winger has failed to live up to expectations since his switch from Lille in the summer of 2019 and was sent-off in last weekend’s draw at Leeds.

It is said by the report that the club are now listening to offers for the 25-year-old and they are keen to avoid a scenario like Mesut Ozil – seeing a big-earner becoming a peripheral figure at the club.

Pepe has yet to find himself a regular starter at the club and is behind summer signing Willian in the pecking order.

Coutinho rules out Barca exit

Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho has ruled out the possibility of leaving the club anytime soon despite strong links with a move to Arsenal.

Having spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, there was strong speculation he would leave Barcelona for the Premier League this summer, but no move materialised.

Coutinho has now forced his way into Ronald Koeman’s side and looks set for an extended stay at the Catalan giants.

Coutinho said: “The Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues in the world. To have the chance to play there with a team like Liverpool will always be something I will feel grateful for.

“It is impossible to say what might or might not happen in the future. But what I know is that right now my only focus is on being successful with Barcelona.

“I won three trophies, including the Bundesliga and Champions League, so I don’t think it [his time at Bayern] can be anything other than a success.

“Winning the Champions League has always been a big ambition of mine and to win it with Bayern was a big thing. Now my ambition is to win it with Barcelona.

“I will always remember and be thankful for my time and success there, but I am back with Barcelona now and that is where my focus is.”
