Arsenal transfer round-up as Gunners chief 'escalates' Buendia talks

Arsenal endured a disappointing campaign in Mikel Arteta’s first full season in charge, failing to qualify for Europe for the first time in 26 years after they finished eighth in the Premier League and were eliminated from the Europa League in the semi-finals.

However, Arteta believes the club is heading in the right direction, saying: “What I can say is that when I watch the team a few months ago and when I watch them now, regardless of the result, in my opinion we are in a much better place and we will be in a much better place. Hopefully we can take the club where we want.”

It seems clear that the Gunners need to make new signings this summer if they want to turn their fortunes around and they have already been linked with several names.

There also looks set to be a number of outgoings, with David Luiz due to leave the club when his contract expires next month and other players set to follow him out the door.

With that in mind, Mirror Football looks at the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Arsenal chief ‘escalates’ Buendia transfer talks

Arsenal’s new director of football Richard Garlick is reportedly keen to make Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia the club’s first summer signing.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old and, according to the Daily Mail, they have opened talks with Norwich about bringing him to the Emirates.

However, the Gunners face competition from Aston Villa, who are looking to sign a new attacking player this summer.

Torreira linked with Fiorentina

Serie A side Fiorentina are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, whose stint on loan at Atletico Madrid recently came to an end.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Fiorentina are ‘looking for reinforcements’ and newly appointed manager Gennaro Gattuso is a fan of the 25-year-old.

Torreira was recently asked about his future and he is quoted by Ovacion as saying: “At the moment I don’t know anything. I still have a two-year contract with Arsenal and obviously when I finish with the national team I will have to return to Arsenal and then we will see.

“We will analyse with my representative and see what is best for me. But I have to make it very clear that I was very happy at Atletico. I became a champion, so I am very proud.”

Arsenal eye Tapsoba

According to reports in Italy, as per Sport Witness, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

The Gunners are said to have ‘manifested a strong interest’ in the 22-year-old and, despite ‘strong interest’ in his services from elsewhere, they are the ‘favourites’ to sign him.

Tapsoba has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen this season, helping them secure qualification for the Europa League.
