Arsenal transfer news: Manchester United and Barcelona launch Adrien Rabiot enquiries

Arsenal have emerged as frontrunners to sign Rabiot, who could quit PSG this summer.

The France international, who missed out on a place in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, may turn his back on the club in the wake of Unai Emery’s exit.

Arsenal boss Emery has, consequently, been tipped to reunite with the midfielder over in north London.

However, Transfermarketweb say Manchester United and Barcelona have both launched enquiries about the 23-year-old.

Rabiot is represented by his mother, who works as his agent.

And she reportedly has talked with Juventus, as well as Arsenal.

Barcelona would relish the chance to sign the player as they hunt long-term replacements for Andres Iniesta.

Iniesta, who quit international duty after Spain’s World Cup defeat to Russia yesterday, has opted to join Japanese club Vissel Kobe.

But United, Transfermarketweb say, have also joined the race.

Jose Mourinho has already signed one midfielder in the form of Fred, who touched down from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £52million deal last month.

And he knows that more reinforcements are needed if the Red Devils are to finally end their wait for the Premier League crown.

Rabiot made headlines in France back in May when he refused to be on stand-by for France.

It was a decision questioned by Deschamps, who said: “It was not a letter sent, it was an email that arrived Monday late afternoon. I became aware of its content. Of course, Adrien signed it.

“I called him to have a confirmation that it was he who had sent this email. He did not answer me. I got confirmation from my manager.

“In the process, I warned my president of the content. I also warned the president of PSG because he is a PSG player.

“I was surprised of course. I can understand the disappointment, the immense disappointment, but to take such a position…we are talking about a young player who for a while was in the French group. He excludes himself from the team.

“I dare to hope that through some decisions like this it will allow him to mature, to reflect. I am convinced that he made a huge mistake in taking such a position.”
