Saliba joins Nice on loan

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba has joined Nice on loan for the rest of the season.

The former Saint-Etienne defender is still part of the Gunners’ plans for the future, but has been sent back to Ligue 1 to gain more first-team experience.

Arsenal technical director Edu said he was “confident” he 19-year-old would go on to have a “great career” with the Gunners.

Edu said: “William experienced a very challenging time last year, with his playing time limited by injury and the early ending of the Ligue 1 season due to the pandemic.

“We will be keeping in close contact with William during his time with Nice and look forward to seeing him make good progress until the end of the season.”

Saliba completed a £27million move from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2019 under Unai Emery, before being loaned back to his former club.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal.
