Arsenal wonderkid Reiss Nelson is on the verge of a move to Hoffenheim, according to reports.

The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and negotiations over a potential new deal at the Emirates have hit a stumbling block in recent weeks.

Nelson looked set to commit his future to the Gunners towards the end of last season but, according to Goal, the England Under-19 international is expected to move on before the German transfer window closes on Friday.

The promising forward was handed his first-team debut by Arsene Wenger last July and went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions.

However, Nelson is yet to feature under Unai Emery since the Spaniard’s arrival earlier this summer.

Wenger backed Nelson to become a Premier League star before he stepped down as manager.

‘He has the technical ability needed in the Premier League,’ he told Sky Sports ahead of Nelson’s first start against Southampton.

‘He can run at players, he can dribble – you don’t find that a lot. As well as link-up play we want to play, I believe he has that.

‘It’s a good opportunity for him, let’s see how he does.’

Nelson hinted that he was ready to sign a new deal with Arsenal earlier this year.

‘It is a big achievement to sign for a big club like Arsenal so I’m just delighted with the contract and hopeful can sign it soon,’ the teenager said in April.

‘I did set one target – to make my first-team debut. I have done that, I have had 15 appearances.

‘A Premier League start was on the cards but I think I need to score, that is the only one I haven’t achieved, so fingers crossed I can get a cheeky goal before the end of the season.
