Arsenal revive interest in forgotten Barcelona star after move fell through

Arsenal have revived their interest in Barcelona keeper Neto as Mikel Arteta looks for reinforcements in between the sticks.

The Gunners have been searching for a goalie to provide competition for Bernd Leno since Emiliano Martinez joined Aston Villa last summer.

Alex Runarsson has struggled to make an impact in his debut season in North London and his time at the club is set to be cut short after just one year as he is on the verge of joining Turkish side Altay Spor.

Mat Ryan joined Arsenal on loan in January from Brighton but there is no interest to make the move permanent as he is close to signing for Real Sociedad.

And Arteta’s men are reportedly going to go back in for Barca outcast Neto, who they almost captured six months ago., according to Mundo Deportivo.

Arsenal were ‘one step away’ from signing the 31-year-old as the keeper had agreed personal terms, but the club were unable to strike a deal with the La Liga giants.

But it seems the move could be back on the cards, but this time the Gunners are looking for a loan deal for Neto.

The Brazilian has only made nine appearances for the Spanish outfit since making the move from Valencia in 2019.

Arsenal are expected to make wholesale changes this summer after they failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years.

The club are close to signing Albert Lokonga from Anderlecht after a £17m fee was agreed, while Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares is on the verge of sealing an £8m move, pending a medical.

The Gunners will likely lodge a third bid for defender Ben White, who is valued at £50m, after their first two were rejected by Brighton.

Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba are in Marseille to conclude their loan deals to the French side, while Granit Xhaka is set to link up with Jose Mourinho at Roma.
