Arsenal owners have perfect chance to please fans and solve transfer issue

Arsenal Football Club is in a state of flux ahead of the summer transfer window, with the club’s owners as unpopular as they’ve ever been.

Results on the pitch haven’t improved the mood around the Emirates, and they go into the summer transfer window still needing to complete their squad rebuild from January.

The Gunners are eager to bring in a new goalkeeper, having failed to sign a permanent back-up for Bernd Leno last summer.

Now, however, they could be provided with the perfect opportunity to solve that issue, with Wojciech Szczesny reportedly up for sale.

Juventus are said to be willing to part ways with the Polish goalkeeper in order to free up funds to sign AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, who will be available on a free this summer but will demand lofty wages.

At 31, Szczesny is only two years older than Leno and still has a number of years left at the top.

The Polish goalkeeper is one of the best in the world and would be a considerable upgrade on Leno, who could well have lost his place to Emiliano Martinez if the Argentine had stayed a year ago.

It’s reported that Arsenal will look for a young number two this summer to provide support to Leno, with Swansea City’s Freddie Woodman a potential target.

And switching their first-choice goalkeepers would provide them with the perfect opportunity to effectively plan for the future in that sense.

Szczesny’s arrival would give them the opportunity to effectively plan for the future while still proving they can attract big-name players now.

The Juventus goalkeeper would be the ideal man to replace Leno, who is reportedly up for sale at the Emirates, and would give a new goalkeeper the perfect route to the first-team.

Any new backup goalkeeper would likely be 25 or younger, and would be able to learn from the three-time Serie A winner before taking his place in a few year’s time.

Selling Leno would also give Arsenal the opportunity to free up some money on the wage budget and recoup a significant transfer fee.

With Juventus eager to get rid of Sczcesny, it’s unlikely they’ll ask for an outlandish fee, and Arsenal would have the opportunity to prove to the fanbase that the club still has a desire to compete.
