Hector Bellerin has completed a season-long loan move from Arsenal to Real Betis.

The 26-year-old full-back – who has entered into the final 12 months of his contract at Arsenal – underwent a medical in London on Tuesday and is expected to fly to Seville in the next 48 hours.

Since breaking into Arsenal’s first-team back in 2013, Bellerin has made 239 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit and helped the club win three FA Cups and three Community Shields.

The Spain international did not feature in any of the Gunners’ three opening games in the Premier League, with Mikel Arteta opting for Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares at right-back.

‘Everyone at Arsenal wishes Hector the best of luck with Real Betis this season,’ a statement on Arsenal’s website said this evening.

Betis, the club supported by Bellerin’s father, teased the defender’s arrival over the course of the evening on social media before officially unveiling their new signing with just half an hour remaining of the transfer window.

Shortly after Bellerin’s temporary move was confirmed, Arsenal announced that they had reached an agreement to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tomiyasu is primarily a centre-half but is also comfortable playing at right-back and his versatility was a key factor in the Gunners deciding to part with £17million for his signature.

The 22-year-old Japan international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Emirates.

‘Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level,’ Arsenal manager Arteta told Arsenal’s official website.

‘He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad.

‘We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.’
