Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to try and convince Martin Odegaard to turn his loan move from Real Madrid into a permanent transfer.

The Norwegian playmaker swapped the Bernabeu for north London in the January window and has delivered a string of fine performances recently, notably scoring against both Tottenham and Olympiacos in the Europa League last 16.

Odegaard’s stay at the Emirates is due to expire at the end of the season and Arsenal did not manage to include a buy option in the deal.

The 22-year-old is expected to return to Madrid in the summer when his future will be decided, though there have been suggestions that he is keen to stay with the Gunners and continue getting the regular game time he has been denied at Real.

Aubameyang – like most Arsenal fans – certainly hopes that is the case, with the skipper asked about his on-loan teammate while playing Pro Clubs on Fifa on his Twitch channel.

Reading out a question from a viewer, Aubameyang said: ‘Can you tell Odegaard to sign? Definitely yeah, I will ask him!’

Odegaard has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane and has made no secret of the fact that he wants regular first-team football.

Speaking about his future during the international break, Odegaard told VGTV: ‘I haven’t thought about what’ll happen in summer.

‘The deal with Arsenal is until the end of season. We’ll see what happens this summer.

‘I’ve said things before that I still stand for: stability and development are key words.’

Real Madrid are expected to demand in excess of £40million for Odegaard if they do decide to sell him and Arsenal will not be his only suitors, with the likes of Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund also linked with rival offers.
