Mikel Arteta after Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Newcastle

Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Thursday night hoping to boost their Champions League hopes.

United will know heading into the big game that a loss would see them lose serious ground in the race to qualify for European football next season and their players are sure to be out to impress incoming manager Ralf Rangnick.

But Arsenal are in good form of late – despite their thrashing at Liverpool last month – and will head to Old Trafford full of confidence as they look to put breathing space in the Premier League table between themselves and their hosts.

With so much on the line ahead of the match, several members of the Arsenal camp have opened up on their counterparts; Mikel Arteta has spoken about United’s ‘radical’ new manager and Gabriel Martinelli revealing his ‘idol’ plays for the Red Devils.

In his pre-match press conference, the Gunners boss spoke about Saka’s injury, while also opening up on the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

Gabriel Martinelli’s Man Utd ‘idol’

The match at Old Trafford may give Gabriel Martinelli the chance to play against his ‘idol’.

Speaking in 2020, Martinelli said Cristiano Ronaldo is an ‘example’ and opened up about his admiration for the Portuguese superstar.

Following his wonder-goal against Newcastle at the weekend, Martinelli may even be hoping to outshine Ronaldo and help secure his team victory.

Arteta’s view on ‘radical’ Rangnick

Mikel Arteta has shared his thoughts on incoming temporary United manager Ralf Rangnick.

The German coach won’t be in the dugout for Thursday night’s game with United still waiting on him to be granted a work visa, but that hasn’t stopped Arteta from speaking about the former RB Leipzig boss.

Arteta also warned Ragnick of the size of the job he will have facing him when he does eventually arrive at Old Trafford.
