Arsenal have axed director of football operations Huss Fahmy as the contract negotiator becomes the latest high-profile boardroom figure to be let go in a major reshuffle.

The Gunners have looked to streamline their operation this year, making 55 redundancies during the height of the pandemic as they overhauled their scouting network.

Head of recruitment, Francis Cagigao, was the biggest casualty of that cull, while Raul Sanllehi left his post as head of football not long after back in August.

Now Fahmy, who has played a key role in recruitment and contract negotiations – both with current players and targets – will be leaving the club too.

According to The Telegraph, Fahmy’s time at Arsenal will end next month with technical director Edu and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham still looking to reshape how Arsenal operate away from the pitch.

There will now be four main voices at Arsenal making key decisions: manager Mikel Arteta, academy manager Per Metersacker, as well as Edu and Venkatesham.

Legal expert Fahmy has played an important role at Arsenal since leaving Team Sky in 2017 and was thought to be crucial in securing deals for both Arteta and Thomas Partey in particular.

In his absence, Arsenal will rely on their in-house legal team to conduct contract negotiations.

The north London club do intend to hire a replacement head of football operations to succeed Fahmy, however their role will be diluted and they will not sit on the club’s executive team.

Going forward, Edu and Arteta will continue to be the driving forces of all Arsenal’s transfer business, having pushed for the deals for Gabriel, Partey and Willian as well as a contract renewal for David Luiz.
