Ariana Grande has finally found her life partner after tying the knot with real estate agent Dalton Gomez but her path to this point has had plenty of heartbreak.
The 27-year-old singer has fallen in love on a number of occasions only for that love to dissipate and the relationship to break down.
She has been devastated by the death of rapper Mac Miller, who she had a two-year relationship with, and has had to overcome the heartache of her engagement to Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson.
Here is the story of Ariana Grande’s love life and her journey to her life partner.
Ariana Grande and Jai Brooks
Ariana didn’t make it easy for herself with her first serious relationship.
Back in 2012, as her singing career started to take off, Ariana began a long distance relationship with Australian YouTuber Jai Brooks.
The social media star had a competition with his brother to see who could get her attention.
This was seen by Ariana’s mum, who told her to message him and soon she was flying back and forth to Oz as the romance grew.
Unfortunately, it ended with him accusing the singer of cheating on him with The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes.
She strongly denied this and claimed her relationship with Jai was “his fifteen minutes of fame”.
Ariana Grande and Big Sean
In 2014, Ariana’s attentions had moved to rapper Big Sean and in 2015 they made their public debut at the Grammys that year.
In her ‘thank u, next’ lyrics, she name checked a number of her exes, and she wrote about Big Sean: “Thought I’d end up with Sean/but he wasn’t a match.”
They performed ‘Best Mistake’ and ‘Right There’ together on a number of occasions and their relationship lasted for eight months.
Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez
After Big Sean, Ariana turned to one of her dancers for romance and briefly dated Ricky Alvarez.
Rumours of a relationship were sparked when they kissed on stage during a live show in 2015.
It was while she was with Ricky that Ariana was caught on camera licking doughnuts in a shop, for which she faced a huge backlash online and in the media.
It is thought that the pair dated for about a year but it would seem that when it was over, Ariana was not mourning their parting too much.
She tweeted at the time: “life is wild and change is f***ing fantastic.”
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller
Ariana’s longest relationship was also the one that has ended with the most heartbreak.
For two years she dated rapper and singer Malcolm James McCormick, who used the stage name Mac Miller.
They had collaborated on ‘The Way’ in 2013 but it wasn’t until 2016 before they went public and showed that they were in a relationship together.
Ariana confirmed they were together while appearing on TV show Ellen, after she had posted a pic of her with Mac, captioning the snap: “Baby.”
Mac was a comfort to Ariana in the wake of the Manchester attacks in 2017 and they performed ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ together at Coachella in April 2018.
In May 2018. fans were shocked when Ariana announced that she had split from the rapper, saying she couldn’t be with someone “who couldn’t keep his sh*t together.”
Days later Mac was arrested for crashing his car while driving under the influence of alcohol.
In September 2018, Mac tragically passed away after a drug overdose, aged just 26, devastating Ariana who has mentioned him in lyrics since.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
Ariana and Pete Davidson were the epitome of a whirlwind romance, getting engaged just weeks after meeting.
She met SNL comedian Pete when they worked together for her appearance on the popular show in 2018.
Ariana reportedly told her manager, “I’m going to marry that man,” after she had spent time in the writers room with him.
Such was her total love for him at the time, Ariana wrote a track called ‘pete davidson’ on her ‘Sweetener’ album but after this peak, they were quickly on a slippery slope to breaking up.
A few months after the engagement, it ended bitterly with Pete deleting his social media as he looked to escape the fall out.
Ariana said in a 2019 interview with Vogue that they were “never going to last” but it has been cited that the death of Mac Miller was so heavy on Ariana’s heart that she couldn’t give her all to Pete.
The pair have never publicly spoken about the ending of the relationship.
