Rio Ferdinand may be desperate for Manchester United to sign Jack Grealish, but Andy Cole isn’t convinced he’d be a good fit.

Grealish, the captain of Aston Villa, has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and his sensational form this season has only seen speculation intensify.

The England international has already scored five goals and provided seven assists in 15 Premier League games this season.

Only Kevin De Bruyne (13) has created more big chances than Grealish (12) this season and the Aston Villa ace is the most fouled player in the division.

Ferdinand thinks signing Grealish should be a priority for Manchester United.

‘I don’t care if [Paul] Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man,’ said Ferdinand earlier this week.

‘I have known him since he was in his early teens. He came to my restaurant and I got him and his dad some tickets for a game.’

Ferdinand added: ‘He’s a great kid with a great family. He loves his football.

‘What the young kids don’t see with Jack Grealish is the hunger and hard work behind closed doors – the attention to detail and the way he trains.

‘He has changed his regime and looked at himself and asked what he can do better.

He added: ‘Good players will find a way, they will work it out. Can you imagine if you had McTominay holding and Pogba alongside Grealish and Fernandes? Imagine that man!

‘I’m licking my lips right now. Listen, he’s an Aston Villa player. If I’m a manger of a top, top team in England, I don’t allow him to stay there anymore, I take him!’

But Cole disagrees and questioned where he would fit into the United starting XI.

‘I think Grealish is a super player,’ he told TalkSport. ‘I’m not going to sit here and say anything different.

‘But I’m looking at Manchester United’s midfield at the moment, where would you play him?

‘You look at Bruno [Fernandes], the performances he’s putting in; that’s the position [Grealish] likes to play in.

‘If you put him off the left, [Marcus] Rashford plays there… so where would you play him again?

‘But I’m a mere mortal when it comes to things like this. I’m like everybody else from the outside looking in.’
