ANC shocked at murder of Tshwane councillor

An unknown group of gunmen attack Matumane’s car on Wednesday evening in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria.

She was gunned down in front of her two children.

“We are saddened by this untimely passing of one of our councillors. She was gunned down in a very brutal way,” says ANC regional spokesperson, Bufuze Yabo.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says Matumane sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

“There were two children in the car, they were not injured. At this stage, we don’t know what was the motive for the attack. We have opened a case of murder and attempted murder,” says Dlamini.

A male passenger in the car was wounded and is being treated in hospital.

No arrests have been made yet.

Yabo says it is the second incident in less than a month where a councillor has been killed following their by-elections in Ward 137.

Reports have emerged that the attack could be linked to a possible hit.

“It is very painful that the murderers, thugs who actually took her life, did not take regard for the lives of the young people, who were sitting in the car – her children. They kept on shooting at the car while she was trying to run away from them,” says Yabo.
