Amy Winehouse's best friend says the singer spent £500,000 on addiction

Amy Winehouse’s best friend has opened up about the singer’s struggles with drugs as it approaches the ten year anniversary of her death.

Tyler James wrote a piece for The Mail On Sunday, where he spoke about the singer’s regrets, a failed rehab attempt in 2007 and her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.

The Back to Black crooner had smuggled drugs onto Mustique island, as she stayed with Tyler as guests of Bryan Adams.

When the drugs had run out, Tyler said that she withdrew and “had been heavily sedated by a local doctor”.

Mick Jagger offered him comfort, saying: “Don’t worry, man, she’ll be all right. People in that world go through this sort of thing.”

The world famous singer told him that Amy was a “rock star” and that what she was going through was “normal”, claiming addiction was “part of the process”.

Tyler had been friends with Amy since the pair were in their early teens, saying that towards the end of 2004 was when the star started to “lose the plot”.

They shared a flat in Camden, London, and Amy had started to show the signs of obsessive compulsive disorder.

It was alcohol, which would later take her life, that she first grew addicted to.

Tyler said that she suggested they “go to the pub and play pool” every day at around 11am.

He said that she would drink a shot of black sambuca every 20 minutes, with the daytime drinking leading to her meeting people “who do hardcore drugs”.
