A MAN armed with a knife has been shot at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
The Dutch Royal Military Police said they shot the knifeman in the leg after he attacked officers in the departure hall.
The man did not respond to repeated calls to lay down the knife.
The man, who has not yet been named, has been taken to hospital.
A second man has also been arrested, according to De Telegraaf, but his part in events is not yet clear.
“The man did not respond to a repeated call to lay the knife,” said the force’s spokesman Robert van Kapel. “He was waving a very large knife.
“The military police then acted quickly and decisively by shooting the man in the leg.”
The situation is now said to be under control although a motive is yet to be established.
An investigation has now been launched.
In December 2017 Dutch military police shot a man in the leg who was armed with a knife at Schiphol airport and making threats.
Police said the man walked into the police service’s office at the airport and threatened staff with a knife.
Officers shot him in the leg and arrested him before transporting him to a hospital.
