Amazon has finally launched its answer to the Apple AirPods in the UK – and at a much cheaper price.

The Echo Buds were unveiled earlier this year alongside a host of other gadgetry all featuring Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa.

Now, the in-ear wireless headphones have gone on sale in the UK with an asking price of £119 – making them considerably cheaper than Apple’s AirPods which start at £159. If you want the noise-cancelling AirPods Pro then you’re looking at a £249 price tag.

Like the AirPods Pro, Amazon’s buds use technology to reduce the amount of ambient noise that might interrupt your listening. They feature Bose’s Active Noise Reduction Technology, which lets the listener choose how much to minimise surrounding noise.

‘Sweat resistant and IPX4-rated to withstand splashes or light rain, Echo Buds also have up to five hours of music playback or four hours of call time with one full charge,’ states Amazon. ‘The included charging case holds up to three additional charges, which means 15 additional hours of music.’

Unlike the AirPods Pro, the charging case for the Echo Buds doesn’t support wireless charging – so you’ll have to plug it in when it’s time to juice up. They also connect to Alexa through the accompanying smartphone app so you’ll need to install that on your Android or iOS device to get the full benefit.

However, if you prefer using one of the other voice assistants like Siri or the Google Assistant, you can also set the Echo Buds to utilise them instead.
