Allegri tells Bonucci his only chance of being Juventus captain is buying armband on STREETS after AC Milan transfer

JUVENTUS boss Max Allegri joked Leonardo Bonucci will need to buy his own armband and play on the STREETS if he wants to be captain.

The returning manager, 53, has ruled out the prospect of Italy’s Euro 2020 hero leading the side after the 34-year-old’s brief stint at AC Milan.

Bonucci spent the 2017-18 season at Juve’s Serie A rivals, returning the following year after Milan limped to a sixth-place finish.

That said, Bonucci has still spent TEN years of his professional career in Turin, originally joining the club in July 2010.

Speaking to the press at his unveiling as Juventus manager, Allegri said: “Captain and vice-captain are decided according to years at the club.

“Chiellini is the oldest. Bonucci has left, so it resets. If he wants the armband he will need to buy one and go and play on the streets. But Leo knows that.”

NOT THE REAL DEAL

Allegri is returning to Juventus himself this summer after a two-year break – and claims he rejected an offer to become Real Madrid’s new manager.

The LaLiga side parted company with Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season and recently appointed Carlo Ancelotti for a second spell.

Allegri said: “I turned down Real Madrid’s proposal to be the new manager. I want to say thanks for the opportunity but I love Juventus.

Explaining his decision to step away from the club, the Italian coach added: “I needed to disconnect, then I started watching many games again.

“The next championship will be very balanced, in addition to Inter and us are Milan, Napoli, Roma and Lazio.

“The important thing will be continuity in the results.”

Allegri also suggested Ronaldo, 36, will STAY at the Italian giants beyond the summer, despite there being just one year left on his contract.

The manager said: “Cristiano is a great champion and a smart guy.

“Yesterday I spoke to him, as I did with everyone else. I told him that this is an important year and he has a greater responsibility because the team is young.”

And Allegri all but confirmed out-of-contract captain Giorgio Chiellini, 36, will sign a new deal at Juventus.

He insisted: “I didn’t let him interrupt his holidays to come and sign a contract, after 20 years together. It’s not a problem.”
