Alan Shearer believes Liverpool and Chelsea will be left to battle it out for the final Champions League qualification spot at the end of the season.

Manchester City have opened up a 10-point lead at the top of the table and having won their last 19 games on the bounce, are looking unstoppable in their bid to reclaim the crown.

Manchester United currently sit in second place on goal difference ahead of Leicester City, with Shearer backing the two to keep their places in the top three.

Defending champions Liverpool meanwhile have slipped to sixth in the table after a woeful run of form that has seen them lose four league games on the bounce at Anfield for the first time since 1923.

And with Chelsea gathering pace under new boss Thomas Tuchel, Shearer believes those two could end up fighting it out for fourth.

Shearer also wrote for The Athletic he expects Sheffield United and West Brom to go down with either Fulham or Brighton joining them.

‘Manchester City are going to win the Premier League. Man United will get in the top four and so will Leicester. Then it’s between Liverpool and Chelsea,’ Shearer wrote.

‘Relegation? Sheffield United are gone. West Bromwich Albion are gone. And then I think it will either be Fulham or Brighton. Probably Brighton.’

Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday and could finish the weekend in the top four. West Ham United, currently sat fourth, head to leaders Man City.
