Love ’em or hate ’em, there’s no denying that Apple’s wireless AirPod headphones have become a thing.

It’s no longer a surprise to see people engaging in all kinds of activity with the little white dongles hanging out their ears.

Well, any activity except swimming.

Because despite Apple releasing two iterations of the AirPods, neither one has had any kind of advanced waterproofing. But that might change when the tech company reveals what comes next.

Tech industry expert Dan Ives believes that Apple will unveil a new pair of AirPods – lets call them AirPods 3 – at a hardware event in California in September. And he says they’re going to be waterproof and a lot more expensive.

‘These AirPods [are] expected to have some design enhancements and will be waterproof with higher price points,’ said the analyst from Wedbush Securities.

‘We believe $229 is the sweet spot price point for the next AirPods version,’ he told the Sun.

Take Apple’s recent approach to cross-Atlantic pricing and you’d be looking at a straight £229 over here in the UK – making these new AirPods a whopping £70 more dear than the current model.

There’s no official word from Apple but given how successful the AirPods have been for the company, it would be foolish to bet against an improved version coming along.

We’ll likely have to wait until September to find out.
