The plaintive ballad continues to dominate the UK Top 40 singles chart since it’s original release six weeks ago an is Adele’s longest running UK number 1 single to date.

Additionally, the singer also lands two other entries within the top 5 of the UK official chart, with Oh My God debuting at number 2 and I Drink Wine at number 4.

While this gives Adele the biggest opening week of any album of the year, it’s still a drop from the 3.8m copies she sold of 25 when it was released in November 2015.

25, Adele’s third album, went on to sell a massive 18 million copies worldwide over its first year. The dip could partly be due to the decrease in album sales in general over the last several years as listeners turn to streaming.

According to MCR Data, album sales in the US alone went from 507 million units sold in 2007 to 102 million by 2020, with a decline seen each year in between.

Easy On Me has also dominated UK radio, becoming the first record this year to break 100 million listeners in one week as it spends its five week at number 1 across radio airplay.

Critics are as impressed as the figures, with 30 heralded as Adele’s finest album to date.

However Adele admits her son Angelo, nine, is ‘not a fan’ and is not even aware of her music – much to her shock and chagrin.

Explaining that the album is for her peers rather than teenagers, she told Zayn Lowe for Apple Music: ‘I don’t want twelve-year-old’s to listen to this record – it’s a little too deep…

‘I prefer to take care of people who are at my level, who have spent the same amount of time on earth and have gone through all the same things.’
