A parody video of the Today show's female hosts depicted as the cast of Bombshell goes viral

They’re no stranger to scandal, and the Today show has unwittingly waded into the thick of it once again.

A new parody video has been uploaded to YouTube, depicting the recent female hosts of Today as the stars of Bombshell.

The video was uploaded on Friday, by an anonymous user known simply as ‘White Secretion’, and it has already gone viral among Australia’s media.

In the video, new Today show host Allison Langdon is depicted as Margot Robbie, who plays Kayla Pospisil in the award-winning film.

Meanwhile, former host Deborah Knight’s face has been superimposed onto Charlize Theron, who depicts news anchor-turned-talk show host Megyn Kelly.

Lastly, Nicole Kidman, who plays Gretchen Carlson in the film, has been transformed into former Today show host Georgie Gardner.

Set to the same ominous music as the score featured in the trailer, the parody declares: ‘What started as a breakfast anchor gig will end eventually.’

Scandalous: The film depicts the real-life Fox News scandal, which led to former chairman and chief executive Roger Ailes being at the centre of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Pictured, (L-R) Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie

In the now-famous shot of the three women standing in the elevator together, ‘Deb’, 47, and ‘Georgie’, 49, are seen eyeballing a grinning ‘Allison’, 40.

The attention to detail in the video is astonishing, with actress Kate McKinnon’s computer screen changed to ‘Today’s headlines’, and bearing show’s logo.

Uncanny: The parody also features recently ousted hosts Deborah Knight as Charlize Theron

Standout act: Charlize has scored an Oscar nomination for Actress In a Leading Role for her role in the film

Bombshell has picked up three Oscar nominations ahead of this year’s awards show on February 9, including Actress In a Leading Role for Charlize, 44, and Actress In a Supporting Role for Margot, 29.

The film depicts the real-life Fox News scandal, which led to former chairman and chief executive Roger Ailes being at the centre of a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Today has also faced its share of scandal, after firing host Karl Stefanovic in December 2018 and replacing him with Deb in 2019.

Comeback kid Karl, 45, returned to the program, alongside Allison as co-host in January 2020.

‘Yes, I am as shocked about this as everyone else. It’s not something that I thought would come up again,’ Karl told The Sydney Morning Herald in November upon hearing the announcement of his return.
