9am Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Declan Rice wanted, Rooney retires REACTION, Brooks LATEST, Lingard set to STAY

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims it will be a “shock” if his Premier League leaders Manchester United win at second-placed champions Liverpool tomorrow.

But as he ponders whether to keep Tuesday matchwinner Paul Pogba in his midfield, Solskjaer claims United “probably deserve” their current three-point advantage.

He said: “If you look back six weeks I don’t think many would have thought it would be anything but an upset.

“We’re the challengers, they’re the champions, we’re challengers and the hunters.

“We want something they have, our mentality will be to work hard, be humble, do our best and see what we can get out of the game.

“They’ve earned the right to be looked up to, they’ve played fantastic football and got fantastic results in the last three or four years.”

Solskjaer’s first name on the teamsheet, Bruno Fernandes, has become the first-ever Prem star to win four player-of-the-month awards in the same calendar year.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer believes new £37million winger Amad Diallo, 18, will make his senior breakthrough this season.

The Norwegian said: “He’s an exciting talent and we’ll give him time.

“Amad can be called up with the squad soon, I think he’ll make his debut this season.”

Finally, United’s 253-goal record scorer Wayne Rooney has quit playing to focus on his new permanent job – bossing Derby.
