Manchester United’s players returned for their first day of pre-season training on Monday, and there were some fresh faces on show.
The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata were all among the familiar names at the club’s AON Training Complex, with summer signings Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both given extra time off after completing their moves.
James is set to report to the club later this week, with Wan-Bissaka given extra time off after he played for England at the European Under-21 Championships
Six of United’s young stars were present though, and all must feel as though they now have a chance of being included in the squad that flies out to Australia for the pre-season tour on Sunday.
Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and James Garner were all present as they look to build on the first-team experience they picked up under Solskjaer last season.
They were joined by Welsh teenager Dylan Levitt and 20-year-old Ethan Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer hailed Marcus Rashford as the perfect example for those young players to follow after the forward signed a new contract on Monday .
The 21-year-old committed himself to his boyhood club until 2023, with an option to extend his deal for another year.
“Marcus is one of the most talented English players of his generation.” Solskjaer told the United website .
“He is an outstanding player; blessed with natural pace and energy.
“Marcus is a shining example of the talent that our Academy produces and his upbringing means that he truly understands what it means to play for Manchester United .
“Despite being only 21 years old, Marcus already has great experience. He has a fantastic future ahead of him with the club and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract.“
