Sometimes, when embracing something new, you want a touch of the familiar to help ease the transition; that’s why reboots of films such as Blade Runner, Star Trek and Ghostbusters included actors from the originals, for example. With electric cars, the same applies. Indeed, in a recent What Car? survey, more than two-thirds of buyers said they wanted electric versions of existing cars, rather than something bespoke. It’s handy, then, that this electric Vauxhall Mokka-e follows hot on the heels of its combustion-engined sibling.
Just like the regular Mokka, the Mokka-e features styling inspired by 2018’s GT X Experimental concept car, including that model’s bold ‘Vizor’ front-end design, which will become a staple of Vauxhall cars in the future.
2021 Vauxhall Mokka-e power and range
The Mokka-e draws its power from a 50kWh battery, which feeds a single 134bhp electric motor. Getting up to motorway speeds takes 8.7sec, but the headline figure is 201 miles; that’s how far the Mokka-e will take you between charges, according to the official WLTP test. The rival Peugeot e-2008, with which the Mokka-e shares its underpinnings, battery and electric motor, can take you slightly farther, with an official range of 206 miles, while our favourite electric SUV, the Kia e-Niro, manages 180 miles in 32kWh form, or 282 miles with its larger 64kWh battery fitted.
