As technology advances, it’s not just ordering food or shopping that’s got easier.

For queer people of any age, having a whole new library of resources available that can help inform, educate and discuss issues important to the LGBTQ+ community could, without hyperbole, help save a few lives.

From shedding light on the historic struggles straight through to exploring today’s new attitudes towards gender and sexual identity, podcasts can reach the people who need to hear them.

Podcasts like these have never been as important, after Pride events and other queer spaces were shut off following the coronavirus pandemic.

Below, we pick out 10 of the best that cover all aspects of queer living…

History is Gay

The History is Gay podcast is hosted by two queer nerds who are keen to share their love for the past, hijinks, and all things gay.

The episodes promise to share stories of those of us in the unexplored corners of history who have always been there, despite traditionally being omitted from the conventional history books.

LGBTQ&A Podcast

The LGBTQ&A Podcast is a great place to hear from the crème de la crème of today’s masc and femme.

Each episode invites a leading queer figure from pop culture and society to sit with host Jeffrey Masters.

The podcast is produced by The Advocate magazine in partnership with GLAAD.

Food 4 Thot

Food 4 Thot is a LGBT podcast hosted by Tommy Pico, Denne Michele, Joseph Osmundson, and Fran Tirado.

The podcast is described as ‘a multiracial mix of queer writers talk about sex, relationships, race, identity, what we like to read, and who we like to read.’

The T Spot (formerly Sex with Topher)

A top five Apple Podcast, The T Spot is the retooled podcast from award-winning educator, speaker and writer Topher Taylor. Formerly known as Sex with Topher, the podcast is set to return with new episodes soon.

The podcast promises ‘honest and relatable chats about confidence, relationships, and sexual health. For. Every. Body.’

Making Gay History

Making Gay History is the audio continuation of Eric Marcus’ insightful books.

The podcast includes interviews that provide a roadmap to the queer community’s long history of resistance. Initially recorded for his 1992 book of the same name, Making Gay History documents the oral history of those on the frontlines of the LGBTQ movement from 1945-1990, including Randy Shilts, Evelyn Hooker, Vito Russo, Larry Kramer, and Ann Northrop.

We’re Having Gay Sex

Okay, so having this title pop up on your work computer might be a tad awkward, but We’re Having Gay Sex is a fun, inclusive talk about the queer dating scene. After 10 years of serial monogamy, the host Ashley Gavin decides to explore the single phase she missed in her early 20’s.

She documents every detail of her new sexual adventures in this podcast, joined by cis and trans guests across all sexuality identities to talk about life, love and lust in their dating scenes.

Queersplaining is a podcast populated with true stories about the lives of queer and trans folks.

Hosted by Riese Bernard — one of the internet’s most storied L Word scholars, with writer and director Carly Usdin, this podcast comes packed full of trivia, jokes, special guests, controversial takes, fond memories and other ways in which society learnt to live with and love the L Word.

One from the Vaults

One From the Vaults, a trans history podcast by Morgan M Page.

An important podcast to prove that trans lives have always been around, the podcast promises ‘all the dirt, gossip, and glamour from trans history.’
